Whole Wheat Bread

Yield: One Loaf

Ingredients:

1-1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
4-1/4 cups whole wheat flour
3 tablespoons nonfat dry milk
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Preparation:

Place ingredients in bread pan in order listed or according to manufacturer's directions. When adding the yeast last, make a small well with your finger to place the yeast. This will insure the proper timing of the yeast reaction. Use Whole Wheat or Timed Cycle, or according to manufacturer's directions.

In my case, I put the water in as it's warm. I added yeast and salt together. Instead of dry milk, I put in 3-4 tablespoons of regular milk in there. Vegetable oil can also be safflower or sunflower, and, if you're willing to try it, olive oil -- but you might have to play with the consistency for olive oil. I do know a lot of people are trying to shy away from canola oils, as they aren't showing promises for healthiness (I'd link articles, but you have access to Google, too.)

The added benefit to this is I'm sure the same recipe would work in an oven, but it'd take more attention from you. If you don't have a bread machine, go grab one from the thrift store. They're all over. If I ever decided to do something (like donate food), I'd get two or three bread machines for the house. I'm not feeling THAT nice as of yet, but the ease is there.
